Meeting Minutes - March 11, 2017

Ice Breaker:  What symptom is most impacting your life right now, and how?

Some answers included:  “Fatigue, newly on medical leave due to this symptom”; “Pain in hands”; “speech control and foot-drop, causing more tripping and falling”; “dryness of mouth and mucus membranes, causing all kinds of dental problems and very difficult to breathe in the morning when lungs are so dry”; “ability to concentrate, making mistakes, transposing numbers/letters”

General Discussion:

One member is on Immuran to calm the immune system. 

Our Press Liaison got our group mentioned on radio station 98.3!  (YAY!  A HUGE thanks to Robbin!).

One member shared a flyer with everyone for a new Chronic Disease Health Management workshop is being offered to anyone with chronic illness (inc. Diabetes, Cancer, Stroke, Heart Disease, Kidney, Liver, Lymes, etc.,) I will copy the flyer for you here.  It’s 6-week course, meets Every Wednesday for 6 weeks from 10 am – 12:30pm Contact Devangi Patel at Health Dept 908-533-9331 (Branchburg) (Thank you new member Patrick for thinking of us!)

One member’s treatment was changed from infusion monthly to an injection due to inability to access veins at these appointments.  Discussion of a port was denied by MD due to risk for infection.

One member’s doctor recommended mental health therapy to assist with stress. 

Another member shared that one of her teachers pulled her aside and recommended mental health therapy for the same thing!  It took her about two years to decide to begin the process, but got great benefit from it (and ultimately wished she had gotten to it so much sooner!)

One member recommends a book entitled “A Prescription for Healing”

One member shares that continuing to exercise is EXTREMELY important in keeping the level of fatigue at bay.

One member shared that their MD did not want to accept that going Gluten-Free really helped.

Luna Rosa is a restaurant where they can do anything on the menu in a Gluten Free option (except bread)
