WHAT IS IT LIKE TO LIVE WITH AN AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE?

Living with an Autoimmune Disease (or Fibromyalgia or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome CFIDS/ME) can be debilitating. These illnesses are life altering. This can cause depression and grief over the loss of the life we envisioned for our self. Autoimmune is characterized by "flare-up"s and "remissions", but for many, the relentless fatigue, horrible muscle and joint pain, swelling, brain-fog, migraines, irritable bowel syndrome, hair loss, rashes, (and on and on) become a daily battle that lasts for years and years with no end in sight. Many feel that no one "gets it" or understands what they are going through! This can be very isolating. But here, you will find you are not alone! Come meet friends who walk in your shoes!

WHAT DOES A GROUP MEETING PROVIDE?

We are a peer-run face-to-face support group with meetings at RWJ Hospital in Somerville, New Jersey. There is no cost to attend. We meet to share our experiences, learn coping skills from each other, and support one another in the challenges that affect us (work life, relationships, disability, etc.). Speaking to others who walk in your shoes can be a very positive experience. We listen, we share, we care. Every member is offered a chance to share, however, sharing is not a requirement. You can get much from just being present; and those at the table benefit from your being there as well. We have Guest Speakers a few times per year that offer a holistic approach to assist us to a better level of wellness. Please take a moment to view our blog to get some support right now! Also, read through some of our Meeting Minutes to see what kind of topics are being discussed at the table!

WE ARE 100% VOLUNTEER RUN

We are 100% volunteer "peerrun, meaning we are patients living with autoimmune disease, like you, who saw a need for a support group. We exist only through the kind donations of our members and supporters!  We would not have been able to celebrate our 10 year anniversary if it weren't for your generous donations that keep us running! If you would like to support our efforts, please make a donation through PAYPAL by clicking below, or drop a donation in the Donations Can at the meeting. (Many Thanks!)

Please email us to join the group or if you have any questions. We are happy to help! autoimmunegroup@gmail.com
